"...And yes, Virginia, all because,
The truth won't save you now" - The Dresden Dolls - Mrs. O.
_________
The final incarnation of a piece first inspired by Kaoru Izima's 'Landscape with a Corpse' series.
Made with hand made felt (wool tops, alpaca, felt pebbles, linen & viscose fibres, - 20+ hours), hand embroidered with rag doll style cross-stitches, French knots, and general other hand stitching. It's finished with antique silk and mother of pearl buttons (I used the backs of buttons for the straps). I considered adding some old sepia photographs printed onto fabric in some of the spaces, but I think it works without them. I'm really pleased with this, and despite never wanting to do felting ever again, had quite a lot of fun with most of it.
I like it ^.^ Also, when I saw the title, then the picture, I was about to comment with that quote... but you beat me to it ;.; Oh well, there's no hell and no hiroshima anyways. :-p
How large is it in reality? I like the photograph idea... although it works well without it, the photographs would add more... emotion I guess to the piece. You could always cheat and photoshop them on and see how it looks before actually taking needle and thread to it.
lol An illustration of Mrs. O. is on my to do list. I love that song <3
It's probably about 1 metre tall...maybe...I don't have it with me to measure ><
Mm yeah, I agree about the emotion thing but I think it'd look a bit fussy on this piece. If I ever go crazy and decide I want to make more felt, I'd quite like to make this a series (that was the original idea), and I would include one dress with photographs.
My last screen name (changed it due to psycho boyfriend, which is sad because I liked it) was WorldIsAllInLove and my display name is The World Is Really All In Love... on Myspace, cause I'm a dork like that ^.^
Also, good, I was thinking you were crazy insane and made a full size dress, because I couldn't tell from the picture... and... well... yeah, I would have to sit in awe of your dedication. Well, I already do, because I wouldn't be able to sew anything that small (I do costuming..nothing from scratch like felting, just, you know... buy stuff and stick it together ^.^) let alone make the fabric for it and ...yeah. Kudos ^.^
